The First Google Doodle..........

...................................................................................................................................

Google’s famous homepage “Doodles” (the changing Google logo graphics) are well known and enjoyed by millions around the world as a way to mark an event or anniversary. But did you know that the very first Google Doodle was designed as a kind of “out of office” message?
In 1998 Brin and Page took the weekend off to go the Burning Man festival in Nevada. The Burning Man doodle (shown above), was designed by the Google guys and added to the homepage to let their users know they were out of office and couldn’t fix technical issues like a server crash.

The First Google Storage Was Made From LEGO....................

.........................................................................................................................

As proud hosts to Google back when it was still a research project, and known as “BackRub,” here Stanfordnow showcases the original Google storage from way back in 1996. It’s made up of a whopping 40 GB (less than a modern iPod) and it’s made from, as fans of the building bricks will be delighted to see, LEGO. It even hash funny mini-figures on the top.
Legend has it that the reason for the LEGO construction was that the Google guys needed an easily expandable, and cheap way to house 10 4 GB hard drives, and LEGO fit the bill. Whether the primary colors of the bricks used were the hues that went on to inspire the Google logo’s design is up for debate, but we’d guess it wasn’t just a coincidence.

Google Maps Streets View Comes to India...........

Google India Blog announced yesterday that it would begin collecting photographs of Indian roads and nearby areas as a part of Google maps street view. The collection will start from Bangalore and will eventually spread to the other major cities of the country. However, there are news of people already spotting Google vehicles inMumbai, Noida, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and other cities. After starting Street View technology in US and spreading it to 27 counties, 4 years later, it finally came to India. For that reason press took it with great enthusiasm and news spread as wild-fire on twitter and Facebook.
#. What is Street View Technology?
Street View is a subsidiary project of Google Maps, which lets you see the real road level images that can turn 360 degrees giving virtual sense of street viewing. This technology is incredibly useful for driving navigation and exploring places [example -Times Square US]. Find more from http://www.google.co.in/streetview.
Over the privacy concerns, Google India confirms that all faces and vehicle number plates will be blurred and no Wi-Fi access point information will be stored. Bangalore traffic department has formally approved the image collection. Nevertheless, if you happen to find any sensitive image, you can request its removal it by clicking on ‘Report a problem‘ in the bottom left corner of the Street View image.

Solve The Puzzle Game Each Day with Google.............

A Google A Day is an interesting site which asks users to find puzzle answers with the help of Google. Its an addictive game to test your knowledge and Google searching capabilities.
A Google A Day Puzzle
Each day, the Google team will ask a question based on varied topics and you will have to find the answer from the Google search engine with little hints given in the puzzle.
To make sure that the answers from each day don’t appear while searching, Google Engineers came up with ‘Deja Google’.
According to the site –
Deja Google is a wormhole inspired time machine that searches the Internet as it existed before the game began. Because nobody wants someone’s recent blog post about finding an answer spoiling their fun.
GOS blog reports that “A Google A Day” might be created to attract more users and to increase market share like the Microsoft Bings attempt of Club Bing. However I feel as there are no awards, Google’s intention behind this witty and clever game is to demonstrate the power of Google engine. In other words, to show what Google can do apart from normal day to day searches.
Play this puzzle game here.

How To Remove YouTube Sidebar, Ads and Comments..................

Sidebar and comments are distractions as they draw apart audience mind from getting the crux of the video. In many scenarios, removing sidebar, advertisements and comments seem to be best option especially when you want viewers to focus on videos only. Situations in which you share YouTube links include presentations, web meetings, student notes, blog posts and teaching.

Before: Cluttered Youtube Page
youtube full screen video small
After: Full Screen Video in Browser
Click to enlarge Before and After effects.

A normal YouTube page looks cluttered likes this. What we would like is browser window filled up with only with video like this.
Hiding comments and sidebar is very simple. You can link videos that play full-screen or fill all browser window space by inserting _popup keyword in the video URL link.
For example, if the YouTube link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM
You will have to add _popup word after watch, so that the video opens in full screen without sidebar and comments section. That is, the new video URL is
http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=_OBlgSz8sSM .
Another method is to replace ” watch?v= ” by ” v/ “. So now, the link looks like –http://www.youtube.com/v/_OBlgSz8sSM but this approach does force auto-start the video.
These are very simple tricks to avoid distractions and to show only what you really want to the audience. Use them freely in your web presentations and notes.
